English

In Goodnight Mr Tom, by Michelle Magorian, Willie Beech is evacuated from London, and placed with a gruff widower called Tom Oakley. With quiet authority, patience and sensitivity, Tom takes care of Willie and a bond develops between them. Through this text, we will write persuasive posters and narratives.

Maths

We will begin by comparing and ordering numbers and their place value including negative numbers, fractions and decimals; addition and subtraction using column method; and long and short division.

Science

The Journey of Blood & Evolving Earth.

In these two projects, children will learn how blood travels around the body and how living things became the way they are today.

Networks and Blogging

Children will be taught how computers access the internet at home and at school. They will know the difference between a WAN and a LAN. Children will identify the purpose of writing a blog and the features of successful blog writing.

Repair and Reuse

Children will look at the importance of reusing and repurposing clothing to reduce waste and protect the environment.

Art & Design

Winged Wonders

We will examine insects as a rich source of inspiration for artists. They will develop observational drawing skills and explore how materials, colour and techniques can be combined to create insect inspired artwork.

Project - History / Geography

In our Mapping the Earth project, we will revise Earth’s features and lines of latitude and longitude, then learn about map scales, grid references, contour lines and map symbols. They will then study human settlement patterns and carry out an enquiry into local settlements. For our Hope, Heroes and the Home Front project, pupils will examine how the Second War transformed our lives.

RE

Children will study the question ‘What matters most to Christians and Humanists?’

PSHE

We will cover units including Being Me in My World and Celebrating Difference.

Music

Four Chord Pop/Songs that Speak

Children will explore the dynamic world of pop and discover how songs communicate powerful messages.

PE

Basketball, rugby, dance and hockey

Children will build upon their invasion skills and develop further their dance through a 1970s disco theme.
