St Margaret's-at-Cliffe Primary School

Our School

St Margaret's-at-Cliffe is a co-educational Community Primary School, catering for 4 to 11 year old pupils, set in a village environment between Dover and Deal, off the A258. The village consists mainly of private housing and has a population of approximately 3000. Children also attend the school from East Langdon, Kingsdown, Dover and Deal. However, there is no official catchment area and children may attend from anywhere in the area.

The school building was purpose-built in 1970 replacing a Church of England (controlled school) established in 1847. The school no longer has any religious affiliation, but still develops strong ties with the local church and the village as a whole. The school has seven classrooms, a large hall and an adjoining unit housing our I.C.T. suite.

There are extensive grounds that contain an environmental area, a large field suitable for a variety of activities including football, cricket, athletics and our annual sports day. The school has the added advantage of being situated close to the sea and in the heart of the village.

There is a full-time privately run nursery on site, which is closely linked to the School and thereby plays a vital role in preparing the children for their introduction to full-time education.

Our teaching staff consists of the Headteacher, the SENCo and seven class teachers. The classes are organised as follows:-

Hedgehogs Class (Years R and 1 - comprising the age range 4 to 6 years)

Rabbits Class (Years 1 and 2 - comprising the age range 5 to 7 years)

Squirrels Class (Years 2 and 3 - comprising the age range 6 to 8 years)

Badgers Class (Year 4 - comprising the age range 8 to 9 years)

Woodpeckers Class (Year 5 - comprising the age range 9 to 10 years)

Owls Class (Year 6 - comprising the age range 10 to 11 years)

We have other support staff including Teaching Assistants,  Office Staff, a Site Manager, Cleaners and Midday Supervisors. Meals are cooked on site in a large modern kitchen by the privately run Whole School Meals Ltd.

Our Standard number of entry is 30 and no Key Stage 1 class (Infants) ever exceeds this.

There are after-school extra-curricular clubs and other activities organised by staff and parents. In addition there are opportunities to learn various musical instruments and there are various fund-raising events held throughout the year which enable us to provide vital extras.  Year 5 have the opportunity to take part in an annual residential visit to Bewl Water and, having established links with France, an annual visit is organised for Year 6 pupils.
